On the page of easygoing_parents on Instagram, they shared the most common mistakes parents make during a child's tantrum and offered advice on how to avoid them:
-
Ignoring emotions: Thinking that a tantrum will pass on its own and simply ignoring it is incorrect. This can only increase the child's stress. It's better to show empathy and say something like, "I see that you're upset. I'm here for you."

Comparing with other children: Phrases like "Vasya doesn’t behave like this" make the child feel worse and devalue their experiences. It's better to say, "I see that you're upset, and that's okay. Let's think together about how to help you."
-
Unrealistic promises: To quickly calm the child down, parents sometimes promise things they can't deliver, such as: "If you calm down, you can play on the tablet all day." This undermines trust. It's better to say, "I understand that you're angry. Let's calm down together, and then we can talk." If you do promise a reward, make sure it's achievable.
The main point: during a tantrum, it's important to be present, understand the child's feelings, and help them cope with those feelings while avoiding comparisons, ignoring, and empty promises.
