SubscribeThe situation has attracted the attention of authorities, including Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, who has taken on the task of assisting the boy in court. The ombudsman reported this on Telegram.
Currently, the boy is living abroad with his stepfather – the father of his sister. After his mother's death, the grandmother took guardianship over him but does not actually live with the child or participate in his upbringing. Moreover, she has received financial assistance allocated by the Ministry of Defense for the boy as the son of a deceased serviceman, but the whereabouts of that money remain unknown.
"The boy notes that his grandmother is not truly his guardian, does not live with him, nor participates in his upbringing, and misleads government authorities while carrying out all legally significant actions on his behalf, but not in the child's interest," – explains Lubinets.Popular articles now TCC tightens rules for military obligations checks Dangerous dates, Putin's mystical goal, and what will happen on the front: a review of predictions by well-known seers for winter 2024 You can even not try: what services are unavailable for men without military documentation TCC proposed an alternative for those who do not want to end up "at zero" Show more
The child has directly asked Dmytro for help in this difficult situation. For its part, the child protection service has already confirmed that the grandmother is not fulfilling her guardian duties, and her accounts have been frozen. Now, the court in the Ivano-Frankivsk region is considering the issue of revoking the grandmother's guardianship, with Lubinets personally defending the boy's interests as a third party in the case.
"This special case is the first and only time that, as the Ombudsman of Ukraine, I represent the interests at the request of a minor child who is abroad and cannot independently exercise his rights in court. The goal is singular – to ensure access to justice for the child and restore his violated rights," – stated the ombudsman.
