During the Trump administration's ministerial meeting, Reuters and several other media outlets were barred from covering the event.

The White House has barred journalists from Reuters, HuffPost, and Der Tagesspiegel from attending a U.S. Cabinet meeting. The media organizations are calling for an end to the obstruction of a free press.

Reuters has reported that its reporter, along with representatives from HuffPost and the German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel, were denied access to a U.S. Cabinet meeting chaired by Donald Trump, as conveyed by UNN.

Details

It is noted that Reuters is the second agency from the "big three" media giants to fall out of favor with the White House: previously, the Trump administration stopped granting accreditation to Associated Press staff. Bloomberg reporters are currently not facing obstacles in their professional activities; however, they have joined the joint statement released on Wednesday.

Journalists are demanding that the White House "stop interfering with the free independent press in covering government activities for the public, which is a fundamental condition of democracy."

Reminder

The Trump administration plans to independently select media for the presidential press pool instead of relying on the Correspondents' Association. Access to the Oval Office and Air Force One has already been denied to Associated Press.

Meanwhile, Associated Press accuses three members of the Trump administration of violating freedom of speech by blocking access to presidential events. The conflict arose from AP's refusal to change the name "Gulf of Mexico" to "American Gulf."
