Trump has signed an order establishing English as the official language in the United States. This was reported by BBC, and UNN conveys the information.

Details

U.S. President Donald Trump has approved a new order that designates English as the official language of the nation. The document emphasizes that a common language is a key factor in national unity, despite the fact that hundreds of languages are spoken across the country.

The new order revokes a provision established by Bill Clinton's administration in 2000. Previously, federal agencies and organizations receiving government funding were required to provide language support for citizens who do not speak English. Now, such decisions will be left to the discretion of the institutions.

Reminder

Last year in Ukraine, the President also signed a document which aims to officially secure the status of English as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine. Additionally, it defines categories of positions for which candidates must have a mandatory knowledge of the English language.
