President of the United States Donald Trump has announced the nomination of Pam Bondi for the position of U.S. Attorney General. The former head of the Florida prosecution will replace Matt Gaetz, who declined the position.
Trump shared his decision on the social media platform Truth Social. He stated that the Department of Justice had become overly politicized, and Bondi should redirect its focus towards combating crime and ensuring the safety of Americans.
"I have known Pam for many years – she is smart, strong, and a passionate advocate for 'America First' policies. She will excel as Attorney General!" – Trump wrote.
Pam Bondi earned her law degree from Stetson University College of Law and began her career as an assistant prosecutor in Hillsborough County. From 2011 to 2019, she served as the Attorney General of Florida, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the state's history.
In 2020, Bondi acted as Donald Trump's defense attorney during his first impeachment trial. Until 2024, she led the legal division of the Trump-backed Institute for Politics.
It is worth noting that Matt Gaetz declined the position. However, his nomination faced criticism due to his controversial reputation. Gaetz was the subject of a federal investigation related to human trafficking, which concluded without any charges. The House of Representatives also investigated his alleged sexual relationships with minors and illegal drug use.
Republican senators preliminarily informed Trump's team that Gaetz is unlikely to receive support in the Senate. The nomination for the future U.S. Attorney General has also faced resistance from the Department of Justice.
Earlier, "Telegraph" reported that Trump's controversial appointments could be a ploy. One of the most contentious candidates is Tulsi Gabbard, who is vying for the position of Director of National Intelligence.
