At the beginning of 2025, new regulations regarding social benefits, residency, and financial support were introduced for Ukrainians living abroad. This is reported by the portal Новости LIVE. The new rules reflect the intention of European countries to reduce expenses related to refugee support and encourage self-sufficiency.

Here are the main changes in Germany, Austria, and Ireland:

Germany

Refugees receive financial assistance through the Bürgergeld program. However, starting in 2025, this assistance will be reduced in case of refusal to:

  • find employment,
  • attend integration courses,
  • participate in seminars.

Penalties for non-compliance:

  • first offense - a 10% reduction in benefits,
  • subsequent offenses - 20%,
  • third offense - 30%.

Benefit amounts in 2025:

  • 563 euros - for singles,
  • 506 euros - for couples,
  • 471 euros - for teenagers aged 14-17,
  • 357-390 euros – for children depending on age.

Starting in March 2025, the provision of free housing for Ukrainians will cease. Additionally, there will be evictions for those who have been living in municipal facilities the longest.

Social benefits remain unchanged:

  • 38.80 euros per week for adults,
  • 29.80 euros per week for children.

Austria

  • Ukrainians with their own cars will lose basic support (Grundversorgung), as they are considered capable of covering their own expenses.
  • Refugees who arrived by car in 2022 must register their vehicle, pay fees, and a special tax.
  • A positive development is the 4.6% increase in family benefits, taking inflation into account.

The new regulations reflect the desire of European countries to cut costs associated with refugee support and promote self-sufficiency.
