On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas through its territory. This decision was made for national security reasons.

This information was reported by Ministry of Energy. Russia may incur financial losses.

Ukraine duly informed its international partners about this decision. The Ministry of Energy emphasized that this is a historic event.

"Russia is losing markets, and it will face financial losses. Europe has already decided to abandon Russian gas," the statement reads.

They also explained that the European initiative Repower EU encompasses exactly what Ukraine implemented today.

As of January 1, 2025, the gas transportation system of Ukraine operates without the transit of Russian gas. The infrastructure of the system is prepared for this mode of operation.

In Russia, it was confirmed that "Gazprom" has ceased the transit of gas through Ukraine. Earlier reports indicated that the company was reducing transit, and it was planned to stop it on January 1, which has now occurred.
