In the Kharkiv region, a community police officer assisted a woman in labor in reaching the maternity hospital.
This was reported by the communication department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kharkiv region, as conveyed by "Dumka".
"The police officer from the Lozova community helped the woman in labor get to the maternity hospital quickly during the night. Throughout the journey, the woman experienced contractions. Officer Roman Vorobyov supported the young couple with conversation and jokes to ease their tension and distract them from the seriousness of the situation. Just a few hours later, a girl named Alisa was born," the message states.
According to the police, on November 22 at 1:30 AM, a resident of the Lozova community began having contractions. The couple realized they needed to act immediately, but it was curfew time, and they had to get to Kharkiv quickly.
At that point, the man and woman decided to seek help from the community police officer. The officer responded promptly to the emergency call, putting on his uniform and heading out to assist. Within three minutes, the expectant parents were on their way to the hospital.
"The trip was not easy. At times I thought we wouldn’t make it in time. So, I took a first-aid kit with me and mentally prepared myself to assist with the delivery. After leaving the city of Zlatopol, the contractions were already two minutes apart," he recalled.
The police officer continuously supported the woman in labor, joked, distracted her, and managed to get her to the maternity hospital in just over an hour, which is quite a record for such a distance. He admitted that he was so nervous that his "legs felt weak," but he didn't show any signs of it to avoid frightening the family.
