In the Kharkiv region, a woman was found to have a rare parasite measuring nearly 4 cm in length.
В Харьковской области у женщины обнаружили редкого паразита, который проник в ее глаз.

In the village of Donetsk in the Kharkiv region, doctors removed a parasite from a woman's eyelid, which caused a rare disease known as dirofilariasis.

This information was reported by the Kharkiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as conveyed by "Dumka".

According to the center, in the village of Donetsk in the Izium district, doctors documented a rare case of dirofilariasis – a disease caused by parasitic worms. The affected individual, a woman born in 1978, sought medical attention due to redness in her right eye, a sensation of a foreign body, and unusual movement of a swelling on her eyelid.

Doctors at the Balakliia Multidisciplinary Hospital performed a surgical intervention. During the removal process, they discovered a helminth measuring 3.5 cm, which was later identified in a parasitology laboratory as Dirofilaria repens.

Dirofilariasis is a disease that is most commonly transmitted through mosquito bites. Although it is rare in humans, cases detected in the Kharkiv region highlight the need for increased awareness regarding insect bites.
