On New Year's Eve, Serbian students, who have been blocking university classrooms in Belgrade for over a month, held a large-scale march. They shut down traffic from the parliament building to Student Square.

According to Radio Free Europe, similar protests were organized at three university centers in Serbia: Novi Sad, Niš, and Kragujevac.

Thousands joined the march in Belgrade at the call of the student community and subsequently participated in the "15 minutes of silence" event.

Participants of the march welcomed the year 2025 by silently standing in Student Square with their mobile phones raised. This gesture was a tribute to the victims of the tragedy in Novi Sad.

"The key demand of the protesters is the release of the complete documentation regarding the tragedy in Novi Sad, where 15 people died in November 2024 due to the collapse of the awning of the renovated train station building. The concrete awning fell just a few months after its grand opening—following a three-year renovation and assurances from officials that it was completed to the highest European standards.", the report states.

During the protest, students carried banners reading "Corruption – Hands Up," "Children's Revolution," "Faculty of Critical Thinking," "Students Stand Up," and "Your Hands Are Covered in Blood." At the same time, there was a banner in the center with the slogan of the New Year's protest: "There's Nothing New – You Still Owe Us the Old One."

Let us remind you that earlier, "Telegraf" reported that protests took place in Georgia following the inauguration of the new president of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili.
