Not everyone will qualify. Who is eligible for a deferment from mobilization in January?

Some categories may lose this right.
Не все смогут получить отсрочку от мобилизации в январе. Узнайте, кто имеет право на её оформление.

The state of martial law and general mobilization has been extended until February 7, 2025. However, certain categories of Ukrainians are eligible for deferment from conscription, although under specific conditions, a citizen may lose this right.

"Telegraph" explains who will not receive a deferment in January 2025. The grounds for which a conscript may receive a deferment are outlined in the Law of Ukraine "On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization" (Article 23).

The following categories of citizens will not be able to obtain a deferment:

  • part-time students, evening students, or those pursuing a second higher education;
  • fathers of multiple children who have outstanding child support payments;
  • individuals caring for a spouse with a 3rd group disability (with some exceptions);
  • those caring for individuals with 1st and 2nd group disabilities, provided there are other relatives who can also provide care;
  • single fathers, as long as the child's mother has not been deprived of parental rights, is not declared deceased/missing, and is not incarcerated;
  • employees of enterprises, organizations, or institutions of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, but without any reservation.

A man who was previously deemed unfit for military service by a military medical commission (VVK) but is recognized as fit after a re-examination may also be mobilized. The right to deferment can be revoked if the conscript submitted false documents or provided inaccurate information. The deferment decision may also be annulled if the individual has stopped caring for a relative with a disability or if their health condition has changed, affecting their right to deferment.
