Recently, messages have started appearing on Telegram channels claiming that a law will allegedly come into effect in December 2024, reducing pensions by 30%.

"Your pension will be cut!" — a fake threat

The criminals disguise themselves as government entities: they use logos and symbols of the Pension Fund, write in an official tone, and offer to "check" how much money you will lose. They even created a table:

"If you were born before 1949, click this link," and so on.

As soon as you click, you are asked to enter your details: surname, card number where your pension is deposited, and other information. Ultimately, the scammers gain access to your funds.

Why do we fall for such schemes?

The main goal of scammers is to provoke strong emotions in you, whether it be fear or joy. When people are frightened for their finances, they lose their ability to think critically and do what they are told. This is an old but still effective scheme: scare them – force them to act.

A similar scheme is used in "bank" calls. Allegedly, "suspicious actions" have been noticed, and to save the money, you need to urgently provide your card number, expiration date, and the code on the back.

Or a positive variant: you are congratulated on a big win and asked to "pay a small tax" to claim your prize. In the end, the person loses their money instead of winning something.

How to protect yourself?

  1. Do not trust shocking news. If you see something unusual – verify the information on official websites or call government agencies.
  2. Do not click on suspicious links. Even if the message looks official, it could be a fake.
  3. Never share your card details. Neither the bank nor the Pension Fund will ask for such information over the phone or through messaging apps.
  4. Consult with loved ones. Before doing anything, discuss it with your family.
