Kyiv is expecting hazardous weather, urging drivers and pedestrians to stay alert and exercise caution.

Exercise utmost caution and prudence.
В Киеве ожидаются неблагоприятные погодные условия: водителям и пешеходам следует проявлять осторожность.

On Sunday, December 29, heavy fog is expected in Kyiv, which will lead to limited visibility on the city's roads and streets. Residents and visitors of the capital are warned about hazardous meteorological phenomena — a Level I danger (yellow) has been declared in the capital.

It is anticipated that the fog will restrict visibility to 200 — 500 meters. This information was reported by the press service of "Ukrhydrometcenter".

According to meteorologists' forecasts, on December 29, the capital will experience fog during the night and morning. The weather is expected to be cloudy, but without significant precipitation.

The wind will be from variable directions at 3-8 m/s. The temperature will range from 0° to +3° Celsius at night and during the day.

Specialists from "Ukrhydrometcenter" also remind that deteriorating weather conditions may disrupt traffic on certain sections of roads and streets.

What rules should drivers follow while driving in fog?

  • reduce speed;
  • if available, turn on fog lights along with low beam headlights;
  • maintain a safe following distance;
  • when stopping, turn on hazard lights;
  • avoid sharp maneuvers on the road;
  • stay focused and avoid distractions.

Pedestrians are urged to be cautious and wear reflective elements – such as reflectors – to be visible to drivers during foggy conditions.

What does the color-coded danger level scale mean?

Green level – no dangerous or adverse weather phenomena are expected.

Yellow level – weather conditions are potentially hazardous. Precipitation, thunderstorms, gusty winds, extreme temperatures, etc., may occur. These weather phenomena are common in the country, but can occasionally pose a danger.

Orange level – weather conditions present a real danger. Storms, heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, heatwaves, frosts, snowfalls, blizzards, etc. These phenomena can negatively affect socio-economic activities and cause significant material damage, as well as possible human casualties.

Red level – weather conditions are very dangerous. Hurricanes, torrential rains, extremely heavy snowfalls, large hail, extreme fire hazards, etc. Such phenomena can cause serious material damage and lead to human casualties.

We remind you that earlier Igor Kibalchich commented to "Telegraf" that a significant drop in air temperature is expected before the New Year.
