The Ukrainian politician, and now also military figure Alexander Turchynov, who has been given the nickname "bloody pastor" by the occupiers, has been married to educator Anna Turchynova for 33 years.
In 2016, she survived an attack. She holds a PhD in pedagogy and is the head of the foreign languages department at the National Pedagogical University named after Mikhail Dragomanov. "Telegraph" provides more details about what is known about Turchynov's 54-year-old wife and her appearance.
Anna (maiden name Belyba) was born on April 1, 1970, in Dnipropetrovsk (now Dnipro). She graduated from the Romano-Germanic faculty of Dnipro University and then completed her postgraduate studies at the Kyiv Linguistic University. She has a twin sister, Raissa, who works as an accountant in Kyiv. Anna also has a niece named Liza.
Since 1995, Turchynova has been teaching English at the National Pedagogical University named after M. P. Dragomanov and has held the position of head of the foreign languages department since 2006.
The future spouses met while working at the regional Komsomol committee. Anna and Alexander got married in 1991. The couple has one son, Kirill. He graduated from the Academy of Labor, Social Relations, and Tourism. He was a postgraduate student at the Institute of Legislation of the Verkhovna Rada. From 2014 to 2016, he served in the National Guard of Ukraine. He is a PhD in law.
On May 25, 2016, Anna Turchynova was attacked: a stranger with a knife assaulted her right in the institute. The attacker was quickly apprehended by police officers. The assailant turned out to be a resident of the Donetsk region. That same day, the then Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, reported on the incident.
"The attacker, a resident of the Donetsk region, came specifically from the occupied territory to assault the Turchynov family. The detained terrorist was found in possession of a set of cold weapons. During the interrogation, he behaved defiantly, threatening Turchynov and the state leadership,” wrote the minister.
Anna Turchynova is known for her controversial statements regarding the LGBT community. In June 2018, she stated that LGBT people are "a deviation from the norm." These statements drew criticism from human rights organizations.
