Why did Americans vote for Trump?

Former president of "Kyivstar," Pyotr Chernyshov, shared a letter from an acquaintance in America regarding the election results.
Причины, по которым американцы отдали свои голоса за Трампа.

I have a very good friend in America named Jake—he, along with another American named Josh, went to help Ukraine at the beginning of our war. They are former Marines who fought in Iraq. Currently, they reside in Kentucky.

Here, they worked as humanitarian volunteers—transporting, supplying, unloading, and so on. I helped them a lot back then. We became great friends—so much so that I later visited them with my son in return and got to know their friends.

They are very religious people, Republicans of the "Reagan type," but now, of course, they vote for Trump.

Today, he wrote to me—his thoughts from the American couch (he constantly reads my Facebook to stay updated on our news). In his message, he tried to explain the reasons why America voted the way it did yesterday.

I find this VERY INTERESTING. I translated his actual letter for you.

"From the perspective of an average American on the couch (I’ve also sat on a Ukrainian couch!).

I would tell Ukrainians that there’s a saying in the U.S.: 'Don’t believe everything you see on TV.' I would pass this on to you. Regardless of what you hear on television about what concerns Americans, it usually comes from the elite, whom we consider detached from real life.

Just like you, we care about affordable products for our families and accessible energy to keep our homes warm or cool. First and foremost, we strive to earn a fair wage for our work, and we want the things we buy for our families to be inexpensive. Sounds familiar, right?

We want our country’s military to be strong enough to defend against evil in the world. The average American really doesn’t worry about issues like sexual orientations or racial matters, or other topics that don’t directly affect our families—unlike what you hear on TV. We are all Americans, and these issues are not as important to us as you might think. And we don’t buy into the nonsense that any of the candidates pose a threat to democracy or the country (let’s return to the idea of a strong military).

If you were surprised by the election results in the U.S., just remember that we are ordinary family people, just like you, who ignored the noise and propaganda from the campaigns and voted for those we believe can best help secure our families.

Right or wrong, it doesn’t matter—there are certain party politicians who are better suited for this than others.

Don’t worry, the average American genuinely supports Ukraine!"
