Law enforcement officials have uncovered new facts regarding the border breach case in the Kharkiv region and today, January 22, detained the former commander of the Joint Task Force "Kharkiv," Yuri Galushkin.
This information comes from the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), as reported by "Dumka."
According to the SBI, Galushkin "misjudged the enemy's potential and the situation in his area of responsibility, and his actions also contributed to the unauthorized withdrawal of fighters from the 125th Territorial Defense Brigade."
Specifically, investigators believe that the former commander ignored available intelligence, assessed the Russian offensive in this area as "unlikely," and thus issued orders and directives to his subordinates that did not correspond to the actual situation, ultimately leading to tragic events on the front line. Due to miscalculations and the unauthorized withdrawal of fighters and certain units of the 125th Territorial Defense Brigade, the strategic initiative was lost, allowing the enemy to penetrate the brigade's defensive line by up to 10 km.
"As a result of such actions, nearly a hundred of our servicemen were injured, killed, or went missing in just the first day of the enemy's offensive. The former commander has been detained. He will be notified of the suspicion under part 5 of Article 27 and Article 429 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (aiding in unauthorized abandonment of the battlefield or refusal to act with weapons)," the statement reads.
It is worth recalling that on January 20, 2024, the former commander was informed of suspicion regarding his negligent attitude as a military official towards service under conditions of martial law, which resulted in severe consequences (part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was remanded in custody with an alternative bail option of 5 million UAH.
The SBI and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained two generals and a colonel on January 20 as part of the investigation into the failed defense in the Kharkiv region.
