This year marked the largest expansion of the "Affordable Medicines" program, which allows Ukrainians to obtain medications with a small co-payment or even for free. The state has allocated a record budget for this purpose – 6.6 billion UAH.
This was announced by the head of the "Servant of the People" party and Member of Parliament Yelena Shulyak, as reported by "Dumka".
According to her, the program has added 50 new medications, enabling an additional 500,000 Ukrainians to significantly reduce their treatment costs.
"Every Ukrainian, regardless of whether they live in a city, a remote village, or a frontline region, should be confident that they can take care of their health. That is why, despite all the challenges of wartime, healthcare is a priority for President Zelensky, the government, the parliament, and the 'Servant of the People' party. This is reflected not just in words, but in concrete decisions, such as the reduction of drug prices," notes Yelena Shulyak.
The cost of medications in pharmacies will decrease starting March 1. Prices for the hundred most popular drugs will drop by 30%, while all other medications will see a 20% price reduction.
"Prices for medicines are very 'biting.' And that's putting it mildly. Some pharmacy chains have unfortunately inflated the prices of the most popular medications by as much as 70-110%, which is absolutely unacceptable. That is why President Volodymyr Zelensky intervened in the situation and tasked finding a solution to support the financial stability of Ukrainian families. First and foremost, he managed to ensure that starting in March, domestic drug manufacturers and major pharmacy chains are obliged to reduce prices for medications by 20-30%. These changes will be significant and positive for millions of Ukrainians," says Yelena Shulyak.
At the same time, the MP adds that at the President's request, the state has also limited the maximum markup on medications: no more than 35% for over-the-counter drugs and a regressive scale for prescription medications. Suppliers will be allowed to add no more than 8% to the wholesale price depending on the cost of the drug.
The "Servant of the People" party also reminds that Ukrainians living in remote areas of the country, where there are either no pharmacies at all or only a limited range of medications, can order delivery of medicines.
According to the political force, delivery of medications began last year. Currently, it is done in two ways: through mobile pharmacies and via "Ukrposhta".
Mobile pharmacies already cover 14 regions. Vehicles travel along special routes, which can be learned from one's family doctor or local authorities. At the same time, to order the necessary medication through "Ukrposhta," one must call the contact center at 0 800 300 545. Medications will be sent by express delivery free of charge. The range of medications in both cases is wide: prescription, over-the-counter, and those that can be purchased through the "Affordable Medicines" program with a small co-payment or received for free.
As previously stated by the head of the "Servant of the People" party and MP Yelena Shulyak, this year the state plans to launch a series of new free services for veterans in the medical field, including individual examination and treatment plans, screening for chronic diseases. There are also plans to expand psychological support and create outpatient rehabilitation units for veterans in every community.
