Today, January 23, the community of Derhachi bid farewell to the soldiers of the 4th Border Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
This was reported by Vyacheslav Zadorenko, the head of the Derhachi City Military Administration, as conveyed by "Dumka".
According to Zadorenko, this concerns Senior Sergeant Artem Demidenko and Senior Soldier Sergey Shopin.
Demidenko began his service in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine as a canine unit inspector in January 2021.
The unit of this soldier was among the first to encounter and eliminate the enemy in Slobozhanshchyna. Demidenko specialized as a machine gunner.
On January 16, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Timofeivka, the man sustained serious injuries.
"Doctors at the hospital fought for his life for four days, but unfortunately, Artem passed away on January 20. He was only 23 years old. Artem is survived by his father and sister," Zadorenko wrote.
Sergey Shopin joined the ranks of the State Border Guard Service in October 2024. He specialized as an unmanned aerial vehicle operator.
"Unfortunately, on January 16, while performing a combat mission near the village of Odnorobivka, the man sustained injuries incompatible with life. At the time of his death, Sergey was 33 years old," the note states.
The hero is survived by his wife, son, mother, father, and sister.
The Ukrainian defenders were laid to rest at the Novomykhailivske cemetery in Slatyne.
