The fighter from the Kharkiv brigade "Hartyia," Vyacheslav Shimchuk, was posthumously awarded the title of "Hero of Ukraine."
This was reported by the 13th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine "Hartyia," as conveyed by "Dumka."
According to military sources, Junior Sergeant Vyacheslav Shimchuk was killed on July 26, 2024, while carrying out a mission in the Kharkiv region.
"In 'Hartyia,' Ded fought almost from the very beginning: he destroyed the enemy in Stelmakhivka in Luhansk region, participated in complex operations in Bakhmut. Later, together with his comrades, he resisted the occupiers in the Serebryansky forest, and after that, he defended his hometown, the hero city of Kharkiv," wrote his fellow soldiers.
Shimchuk was posthumously awarded the title of "Hero of Ukraine" and was granted the order "Golden Star."
This is stated in the presidential decree dated February 26.
The award was given "for personal courage and heroism demonstrated in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and selfless service to the Ukrainian people."
